Yeah, the US economy sucks and the dollar is weak. As gamers (and poor people) we don’t like to hear about that. It makes regularly purchasing $60 videogames with a clear conscience a bit more difficult. If you’re anything like me, you try to pretend that you don’t know about it. Ignorance is bliss, right?
Our buddy Michael Pachter brings it back up, though. The Wedbush Morgan analyst states that its really the weak dollar, and not production problems or component shortages, that is causing the Wii hardware shortage. Surprised?
Pachter says that Nintendo stands to gain more by selling the console in other countries, like Europe. In other words, the profit for Nintendo is worse when our dollars get changed into their yen. He goes on to say that supply levels in Europe are starting to normalize after being sent an excess. Perhaps Nintendo will send more our way when we have the ability to pony up a bit more cash. It sounds harsh, but can you blame them?
Pachter thinks that the Wii will become more plentiful in the US later in the year, according to The Dallas News.
America, high five on being second-class!

Ubisoft is coming out with a new Wii game called Emergency Heroes. Emergency Heroes is set in an open world and it’s the players job to keep the city safe. 16 “next-generation” rescue cars will be available ranging from Cop automobiles, Fire trucks, and more. The game will support two player co-op and versus and will fully utilize the Wiimote. The game should be out sometime this May.
The premise sounds fun. Actually, the premise makes me think of Crackdown. Really, this kind of sounds like Crackdown to a degree. The high tech cars, the free-roaming environment, protecting the city and the upgrades all remind me of Crackdown. Now all this game needs is a bunch of stupid orbs hidden all around the city and we’re set. Oh and guns. Lots and lots of guns.

Wasn’t I just recently bemoaning my sad fate if the most recent entry in the Chocobo’s Dungeon series didn’t make it to the US? I choose to believe that Square heard my desperate plea, rather than the more likely explanation that the announcement of the US release of this title just occurred to coincide with my current post about it. After all, Square knows how to work their fans. Think about me worked, dammit.
The official press release confirms the game for a July 8th release at a price of $39.99. Just to remind you in case you forgot in the lapse between the Japanese release of this game and now: FFF Chocobo’s Dungeon is a Wii title which sends Choco and the ubiquitous Cid to a town where people are losing their memories. It’s also the game responsible for those character class Chocobo plushes, which sent many a fanboy and girl howling in search of their highest-limit credit cards. I can vouch for their awesomeness, however, as the full set is staring me down from the bookcase as I type this.
