You might remember I mentioned a short while back, that I was going to be writing a post on SpinVox - now, this isn't the first post IntoMobile has dedicated to them (see here and here for example), but, it is the first usage review from a UK perspective!
I signed up for the service about 2 weeks ago now, and since then have been watching with glee as my voicemails turn up as texts. Oddly, for the first few days I didn't get a single voicemail (very unusual for me), so I thought the service was broken, but sure enough it was working, and on day 4, in came the first texts!

There are a lot of good things about the service, and a couple of things that are not quite so great - first the good:
- I love not having to dial up my voicemail - yes it's useful to get messages when you miss calls, no it's not useful to have to waste time getting them played back to youThe speech-to-text system works pretty well - not perfect, but pretty darn good!
- Your voicemails are still stored as traditional messages to be accessed by a call, so if you want to dial up too, you can
- The service cost is quite reasonable
- It's genuinely useful - you wonder why this isn't a standard feature offered by all operators
So there are a couple of less great points, and in fairness I feel I should list them:
- Sometimes there can be a bit of delay getting your converted message - when I just missed grabbing my handset in time for a call, I was expecting the converted text shortly afterwards - but occasionally more than a few minutes elapsed before I got the message
- The initial setup is a bit fiddly - that's not a criticism of SpinVox per se (since part of it is changing your voicemail quick dial key, typically the “1″ key, to a new number), but still I would suggest it's more manual than state getting new WAP/MMS settings sent to your phone

Overall though, I'm happy, impressed, and liking the service - and heartily suggest to UK readers, and those other readers who have a supported country - talking of which, you can check that out here.

Dial2Do is a free phone service that lets you get things done just by phoning a number and saying what you want done. You can call Dial2Do and say “email” to send an email, “text” to send a text message, “note” to…well you get the idea! It is being introduced to the US market at CTIA in Las Vegas.
Dial2Do is adding services all the time. Now you can do the following critical tasks hands-free via voice:
- Write Notes - Dial2Do will ask you what you want to be reminded about/ note, and then send you an email with the details
- Compose and Send Emails — Dial2Do allows you to “speak” your emails and pick the recipient. Then Dial2Do sends them email with what you said, and a link to the audio so they have the ability to hear
- Compose and Send Text Messages — as above, but via SMS
- Twitter — Dial2Do allows you to speak updates to your Twitter feed
- Jaiku — Dial2Do grants you to talk updates to your Jaiku feed
- Jajah — State 'Jajah' and the name of the person/group, then hang up and Dial2Do will connect your call
For services that require transcription (email, text), Dial2Do uses a combination of both automation and human assistance. The service “learns” from corrections made by human agents, so the more the user uses the service, the better the automation gets.

So it sounds like a fairly handy service if you are in to (a) making calls and (b) not writing stuff down - but what say you, IntoMobile readership - would you actually use it?

iPhoneNotes is a Mac app made to allow iPhone owners edit Notes on their beloved handset. This isn't the first application that can do that. MegaPhone, which was earlier known as iPhoneDrive, can also do the job, but unlike iPhoneNotes doesn't come as a free download. To be fair, MegaPhone does much more than allowing you to manage iPhone Notes.
Anyway, the application is currently in the version 0.3 and is available for download as Universal Binary from here. You'll need to have your iPhone jailbroken and few apps — BSD Subsystem and Open SSH — installed prior to accessing your notes.
Now, if someone would make a Windows XP/Vista app that can do the same thing, I know some people who would appreciate that, myself included. Who can wait for the new firmware?

Thanks to the eagle eyed folks of MobileInCanada, we've spotted that the LG Venus — which is already available in the U.S. via Verizon — is ready to hit the Canadian mobile phone market. Telus is LG's carrier of choice and starting from mid-April, Canadians will be able to grab one of the coolest looking phones in black. The pink version is also scheduled to be released, but interested buyers will have to wait a bit more in order to get it. According to Telus' release — which goes after the jump — the the pink Venus will be available later in the spring. Pricing is not unveiled, but we don't anticipate it to be through the roof. Like the 3-year plan isn’t binding enough… And now the mentioned release.
PRESS RELEASE - TELUS this day announced that it will be the first Canadian carrier to bring the next generation of the cell phone interface to life with the LG VENUS touchscreen phone. The LG Venus is the first in a series of LG Electronics touch screen phones TELUS will bring to Canadians this year. Touch screen user interfaces are typically reserved for high-end entertainment and productivity tools such as Smartphones and personal digital assistants (PDAs) and this marks the first time that Canadians will be able to own a touch screen phone.
“Today's cell phones are incredibly powerful communications and entertainment devices. To superior utilize the capabilities of these devices, we believe the touchscreen interface is the future,” stated Rizwan Jamal, senior vice-president of TELUS Consumer Solutions. “We are very excited to introduce the LG VENUS, the first of the LG Touch series. The LG VENUS will be followed by additional touchscreen phones later in the year to help keep our customers entertained and connected whenever they want, wherever they are.”
“LG is excited to launch our LG VENUS Touch phone in Canada with TELUS. Canadians looking for style and state-of-the-art technology will love this phone,” said, Andrew Barrett, vice-president of Marketing, LG Electronics Canada. “With the release of the LG VENUS, Canadians will be able to experience touch technology while they listen to their favourite songs and view videos, all packaged in a very attractive two-screen design.”
Designed to impress, the LG Touch series has everything to satisfy Canadian appetites for style and entertainment. The LG VENUS is the first of the LG Touch series available this year from TELUS and is the only LG Touch phone that features dual LCD screens and intuitive touchscreen navigation. The LG VENUS is the perfect accessory for fashion conscious consumers on the prowl for the latest must-have phone.
The touchscreen user interface represents the biggest innovation in the cell phone user interface in years. The touchscreen simplifies the traditional phone keypad by eliminating up to a dozen keys that were previously used for navigating the menus of traditional cell phones. To further simplify the user interface, the touchscreen interface only displays user options that are relevant to the task.
The LG Touch series will support a wide range of entertainment services including TELUS mobile music, TELUS Mobile Radio, TELUS Mobile Television and TELUS Navigator.
The LG VENUS from TELUS is expected to be available by mid-April in black with silver trim, with a pink version available later in the spring. For more information about the LG VENUS from TELUS, please visit: www.telus.com.

What we have here is apparently a not-that-real Nokia E52 smartphone. As you can see from the image above, the device adds a “slider touch” to the existing E50 model. The end result is a weird phone, to say the least. Not that I don't see someone buying it — especially if it adds WiFi, more RAM and the latest Feature Pack on top of what the original E50 got. Too bad this is most likely a work of the Photoshop master, rather than a real device. Still kudos to that guy/girl. You can clearly see he/she invested lots of time to make the phone look real.
