Kyocera unveils three CDMA phonesWe always envisioned Kyocera as a low-end handset maker and they seem to care about just the way it is. That being said their latest CDMA line-up doesn't come as a surprise to anyone. Few lines are tweaked, but basically all their new phones are considered low-end. Let's roll:

  • Neo E1100: 2.2 inch QVGA display, Bluetooth 2.0, BREW, 1.3 MP camera and a hidden OLED out display
  • Mako S4000: two screens (inner is 1.8-inch), VGA camera, BREW, Bluetooth
  • Adreno S2400: 1.8 inch screen, external caller ID display, BREW, no camera at all

Next, we expect Virgin Mobile USA or perhaps Alltel to pick one of these and offer it for free or next to nothing.

AT&T Navigator

AT&T is taking what seems like a Verizon-like route by launching a carrier-branded navigation service. However, they went one step further making the so called AT&T Navigator the “only mobile phone-based GPS service that provides integrated speech recognition for address entry and points of interest search.” In addition, the location service offers other features like real-time traffic updates, ability to compare gas prices and get directions to the nearest gas stations, and mobile access to YellowPages.com.

AT&T Navigator is designed to provide you with clear and precise audible and visual turn-by-turn driving directions, including full-color moving maps, using GPS directly from your wireless phone. Working with TeleNav, whose navigation service has been available on AT&T PDAs since 2006, AT&T is now introducing its own branded next-generation GPS navigation service for all consumers. The service is available on GPS-capable PDAs and handsets, including the new consumer-focused Motorola Z9.

AT&T Navigator is already available for Windows Mobile and choose BlackBerry (8310, 8800 and 8820) smartphone owners, as well as for the newly launched Motorola Z9. Monthly subscription costs $9.99 while the “Day Pass” is available for $2.99… AT&T's release has more information.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1

I guess aside from announcing a new head of marketing, Sony Ericsson doesn't have much to unveil for the CTIA, hence they’re confirming something we already know - the XPERIA X1 will run Windows Mobile 6.1. The Swedish-Japanese catch is in their XPERIA panel user interface that runs on top of Microsoft's mobile OS.

And while we're talking about the interface, Sony Ericsson wants us to know it will provide users with swift access to favorite apps and media, while also being customizable by both mobile operators and the end users. We knew that as well, but if you're attending the CTIA and you still haven't seen the XPERIA in action, make sure to visit Sony Ericsson's booth (#1627) which is located in the Central Hall C3… Full release follows after the jump.

PRESS RELEASE - Sony Ericsson today confirmed that it will be running Windows Mobile 6.1 on its stand-out arc-slider phone, XPERIA X1, the innovative multimedia phone announced at this year's Mobile World Congress. Using Windows Mobile 6.1, together with Sony Ericsson's very special XPERIA panel user interface (UI), will enable a highly user-focused experience with enhanced connectivity, messaging and multimedia features.

As the mobile broadband comes of age, consumers are waking up to the vast array of multimedia services and content they can access on the move through their mobile phone. The XPERIA X1 from Sony Ericsson enables consumers to personalise their experiences through a distinctive touch screen, panel-based UI creating an interface which is uniquely relevant to them and how they live their lives. This continually active desktop allows users to organise the phone's active dashboard as they want, changing between panels just like they change their mood, activity and information needs in the course of each day.

“No two individuals have the same tastes and desires. Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X1 has been developed to ensure that mobile web communication and multimedia entertainment can be tailored, putting the individual at the heart of the mobile experience in a uniquely personal way,” said Rikko Sakaguchi, Head of Portfolio and Propositions, Sony Ericsson.

Operators will also be able to custom build the touch panels that run on the XPERIA X1 to provide the consumer with a rich, aggregated offering of their applications and services. In addition, Sony Ericsson also plans to align with key partners around the panel technology to enable them to develop exciting applications that can be enjoyed by users on the XPERIA X1.

Visit the Sony Ericsson booth (Central Hall C3 Booth #1627) a CTIA in Las Vegas between April 1 – 3to hear more about the one-of-a-kind personalization and customization capabilities of the XPERIA X1.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA brand of multimedia mobile phones will bring a completely new user experience to the mobile phone market, putting the consumer at the heart of their experience and allowing the individual to create a touch panel dashboard that is unique to them and how they live their life.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 will be available in selected markets in the second half of 2008.

EmozeOur friends from Emoze have been so busy during the Mobile World Congress (3GSM) in Barcelona that today at the CTIA, they have only an enhanced user interface to announce. Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming them at all. On the contrary, I'm glad to see them further improving their service now that both enterprise and what I call the consumer (POP3) editions have been released. From their release:

By using the new HTML interface, emoze users will see a more familiar, web-like view of their emails, including pictures, logos, layout designs, signatures and other visuals that most push email systems leave behind. This innovation from emoze, one of the only services providing this option, will offer ultra-friendly, PC-like messages by providing the facility to receive and view HTML coding.

Their URL remains www.emoze.com and the official release is available on PRNewswire.
