FlyTunesWe've already covered the satellite radio kind of service, FlyTunes, in the past. Those that liked it, will be glad to know they've recently tripled its channel offerings from 50 to over 160 channels that cover all genres of music, as well as talk, sports and local weather. On the other hand, iPhone/iPod users which are reluctant to try new services, maybe are now convinced to try out FlyTunes.

The new music channels on FlyTunes include top rated Radio Paradise, SmoothJazz.com, RauteMusik.fm, and 53 music channels from 181.fm. In the talk category, FlyTunes has added NPR, TheScore.com, and local weather in the top 15 U.S. markets…

Interesting figure that should convince you to give FlyTunes a try, is that average FlyTunes iPhone user listens eight hours per month according to Comscore — that's over four times the amount the average YouTube user streams per month. Wow!

Juniper ResearchWiMAX will start to take off over the 2009 to 2011 period, exceeding 47 million subscribers globally by 2013, according to a new analysis of the global opportunity for WiMAX 802.16e to deliver “local loop” broadband connectivity.

A region by region analysis by Juniper Research found that there’s a significant opportunity now for WiMAX as a DSL alternative technology. The study explored how WiMAX is well suited to rapid deployment in the many underserved areas, not only in developing areas, but also in developed countries.

Highlights from the report include:

  • Global WiMAX service revenues, as a DSL replacement technology, will grow to over $20bn per annum by 2013.
  • The top WiMAX regions for DSL substitution will be: The Far East, North America, Western Europe and Africa/Middle East.
  • Around 12% of the forecast DSL subscriber base for 2013 will be replaced by WiMAX.

However, the report cautions that the two key issues dictating take-up for this technology will be the availability of suitable devices, and timely network construction. Service providers need to finish build programmes on time in order to reach sustainable WiMAX based businesses and they also need to translate the many, usually well-publicised trials, into commercial networks offering reliable and attractively-packaged services.

Whitepapers and further details of the study “The Last Mile: Opportunities for WiMAX, 2008-2013″ can be freely downloaded from Juniper Research's website.

Parrot mobile website

Leading Bluetooth accessory maker Parrot recently announced the launch of a website for mobile users. I'm not sure why it took them so long, considering the business they’re in, but they’re here now, and that's a good thing… I guess…

Anyway, interested users/buyers can get “all things Parrot” from the new site — including product photos and data sheets, latest news, lists of retailers who carry Parrot products and all the contact information and addresses for Parrot and its subsidiaries. Also, through a partnership with vpod.tv, users will have the capability to stream videos and download content in 3GPP format.

Parrot's mobile site is optimized to work with latest mobile phones and can be accessed either from mobile.parrot.com or m.parrot.com.
