Vodafone UK is offering a £10/month discount on two of their tariffs (£35/month and £40/month) when customers sign up for 18 months - they have even done a bit of research to show why this is so important!
Apparently, 52% of us Brits state that on at least one occasion, £10 had made a significant difference to them.
Top ten popular ways to spend a life changing tenner, according to Vodafone's research:
1. Lottery ticket or scratch card
2. Bet on a horse
3. Life changing book
4. Pregnancy testing kit
5. Mobile top up
6. Buying a drink for their (unbeknown to them) future wife
7. Buying flowers for their wife/wife to be
8. A bargain find at a automobile boot sale or antique fair
9. First driving lesson
10. Making a donation to a animal shelter when they bought their first pet
Comment: I don't even want to think how many people can claim to have done more than one of these at the same time…..

- 40% of SpinVox subscribers state they like unlimited 'all-you-can-eat'
conversion plans to the pay-per-conversion approach.
- The active SpinVox user base has now passed half a million and is on target to hit six million by mid 2008.

Motorola have gone live with an awesome competition for those of that are a bit creative with old digital video - how do you fancy winning (a) one Motorola Z10, and (b) £10,000? Yes? Then read on!
The competition
The competition is extremely simple to enter. Entrants should pick a ‘logline’ from the list below (‘logline’ being film industry talk for a one-sentence summary of a film’s plot. For example, Alien’s original logline was “Jaws in space”) and use it to form the basis for a short film of no more than 90 seconds in length. As long as they relate to the logline, films can feature any subject matter the creator chooses (subject to the rules below): funny, emotive, thought-provoking or slapstick, all are welcome. And entries won’t be judged on production value – they can be as rough and ready as the creator likes.
Step one - Entries must be posted to a YouTube group by Might 30th from where they’ll be put on a Motorola-branded YouTube channel. Entries in the first stage will be judged by the panel with representatives from Empire, O2, Motorola and advertising bureau Ogilvy. However, it is also an chance to showcase your work in front of friends and family. The makers of the top twenty films will win a MOTO Z10 phone and be named as Finalists with their videos reviewed on Empire.com.
Step two - The twenty Finalists will be invited to produce a second short film, using only their newly prized MOTO Z10. They will be given a week to create the second film which they’re required to post online to a YouTube group by the deadline of 13th June. These entries will be featured on Empire Magazine’s website and will be reviewed by the same panel of judges. The film judged best by the panel of judges will be declared winner and the maker will win the main prize of £10,000. The content from successful entries might also feature in a ‘DIY movie making’ video to be produced and released by Motorola at a later date to further promote the handset.
The Prize
The 20 winners of Stage One will receive the MOTO Z10 handset with which they are required to film an additional film with a ‘logline’ of their own creation. The overall winner will receive a cash prize of £10,000. The winner won’t only get the plaudits and kudos associated with winning but also the opportunity to have their work scrutinized and critiqued by an esteemed panel of judges.
Comment: this is truly cool - an excellent competition with GREAT prizes, from a Mobile Vendor that we all want to see do well. The Z10 is really great with media playback (and recording, so if you want one, and a chance to win the £10K, check out the URL below

Following previous rumors that indicated that the next-generation iPhone would be made available in Italy without contract or carrier-lock, we're hearing that the next destination for an unlocked 3G iPhone could be Belgium.
Apple has been open to different business models for its iPhone, and it seems that the company is embracing the notion of offering unlocked versions of its iconic iPhone at premium price-points. Belgian site Astel.be is reporting that Apple is looking to bring the 3G iPhone to Belgium's three major wireless providers - Proximus, Mobistar and BASE. The carriers are said to be preparing special, iPhone-specific wireless rate plans ahead of the anticipated launch of the next-generation iPhone.
Mobistar is apparently expected to have a two-month exclusivity window on the 3G iPhone, with the remaining Belgian carriers getting the 3G iPhone's graces by year's end.
June-ish is the rumored launch window, we'll keep our ears to the ground on this one.

Mobile Advertising Solutions, a new player in the Mobile Ads space, have contacted me regarding a Beta version of a new free Mobile games service they’re offering (sadly at the moment only for those in the UK). You can download some pretty good games, for free, and the only you thing you have to “do” in return is see some Ads as the game starts up.
Here is a small selection of what's on offer:

I think it's important to point out that (a) there are the data costs from your operator of downloading the game still to pay for, and (b) if you click to go “online” from an Ad, then obviously data charges are incurred there too (plus anything you might buy!). I would also encourage to read the T+C's before inputting your info - but that’s something I would recommend with any on the web service!
My personal favourite game is the 3D crazy golf - a fantastic pick up and put down game that you can return to, and works super-well on a Mobile - I've also been enjoying the delights of Garfield's Day Out this evening!
Overall, this seems to be a pretty cool service, from a cool new entrant in to the Mobile Ads space - the website is well-designed (clean, not over-cluttered), as is the wapsite. They have some good games, and dare I say some big-name advertisers (NME and eBay were the Ads I saw). If you are a UK reader, why not have an investigate and see if you find something you like - again, I reckon Crazy Golf 3D is the winner
The website is: http://123play.com (no that's not a mistake missing the www.)

There's no amount of legal battling or even a federal trade embargo that's going to keep this chip-making giant from rising to the top. Case in point, Qualcomm's latest financial statements show that, despite all the legal costs associated with fighting IP battles the world over, the company has managed to rake in $2.61 billion in revenue - a 17% increase from $2.22 billion for the same period last year. And, net income was posted at $766 million - a 6% increase from $726 million for the same quarter last year.
With Qualcomm working to bring its tech-expertise to the coming onslaught of Google Android-powered handsets, the future is looking ever brighter for the California-based company. And, as such, Qualcomm is looking toward an 8-16% revenue increase for the coming quarter.
Well done, Qualcomm.

Handset manufacturers are scrambling to get their wares mated to Google's Linux-based Android OS, and it looks like Qualcomm's lending a helping hand. The chip-making giant has announced that it's hooked up with several OEMs looking to launch an Android-powered handset this year. It makes sense for Qualcomm to help these handset manufacturers develop their hardware for the Android platform, those handset are going to be packed with Qualcomm's chipset bits, after all.
Sayeed Choudhury, product manager for system software at Qualcomm's chip division stated that Qualcomm is working with OEMs to push out “more than five handsets that’ll use Android.” The hardware offerings in question should offer features similar to that on the iPhone, but at a lower price point. And, Choudhury states that, “Google has really thought through what Apple has just begun to unlock.”
Keep your eyes peeled for no less than 5 handsets running Android by year's end. We can't wait!

While Motorola works through yet another round of disappointing financials, it looks like the company's aging RAZR brand is still going strong. The Motorola RAZR2 V9m is apparently headed north of the border to our friends in Canada. More specifically, the RAZR 2 V9m will be offered to Virgin Mobile Canada customers. With RAZR style and music-centric aspirations, the RAZR 2 V9m is the latest higher-end handset to be offered on Virgin Mobile's Canadian network.
For $149 CAD (about $147) on 3-year contract, Virgin Mobile Canada is ready to serve up the RAZR2 V9m with a 2 megapixel camera, 2 inch external QVGA display, external music controls, 2.2 inch internal QVGA display, stereo Bluetooth, EV-DO, and microSD card slot. This is about as good as it gets on Virgin Mobile Canada, which is more than we have the ability to say about the company's US ambitions.

Just because the Motorola W755 isn't anywhere near the high-end of Motorola's handset portfolio doesn't mean it doesn't deserve a tiny attention. As the more stylish (and slim) than feature-packed handset, the Motorola W755 will be bringing all the glory of its 1.3 megapixel camera, touch-sensitive external controls, Bluetooth, and EVDO to the mass-market soon.
The Moto W755 should sport a RAZR-esque keypad and will offer a microSD card slot to complement the handset's media-centric intentions. Two color variants - Gray and Purple - will be made available on launch, with front-face (external face)

of the two variants sporting different styling. The Purple Motorola W755 seems to be aimed more at the female demographic with a more decorated front-plate, while the more masculine Gray Moto W755 sports straight-forward styling (not to perpetuate gender stereotypes or anything).
As expected, the Moto W755 is wearing Verizon branding, so expect the usual complement of Verizon-specific media services. We're looking for the Motorola W755 to drop in May at an unknown price point - as a budget-minded handset it shouldn't be too expensive.
