China numbers - March 2008

China keeps growing like crazy and it still manages to surprise us with its numbers. According to statistics published by China's Ministry of Information Industry (MII), there were 574.63 million mobile subscribers as of the end of March 2008. Number of subscriptions grew 1.66% on month, 19.55% on year, and the total number of subscribers at the end of March accounted for 41.6% of the country's population.

On average, Chinese mobile subscriber sent 3.32 messages per day, totaling 58.61 billion SMS sent during the month of March.

As for the landline users — not that we care much about that part — there were 361.06 million fixed telecommunication network subscribers (user density of 27.8%), again at the end of March 2008.
