CodeName iVy

A company called Lextex is working on an application that lets controlling surveillance devices via iPhone. The so called CodeName iVy project provides users with complete remote access to what is happening, including easy time-shifting — all from any computer or iPhone using the internet browser. Apparently, this is also working over EDGE, although we're not eager to try it that way.

According to Lextex, traditional surveillance systems use a joystick or mouse to control camera positioning. With the iPhone, the user has the potential of a much more intuitive interface to drag the camera around and zoom in on things by pinching the picture. Sounds cool, but just wait to see how it looks in real life. Two video clips follow after the jump. Enjoy!

Sony Ericsson BeiBei

Nearly a month ago we posted one of the first Sony Ericsson BeiBei leaked pics. As far as we know, the upcoming device will run the latest version of UIQ (3.3) on top of Symbian OS, and will also boast such things as some camera (we're not sure about the megapixel count), WiFi and Bluetooth. We would certainly like to see HSDPA on the list too, but we're not sure about that one either.

It's likely the Swedish-Japanese handset maker won't market the BeiBei as a smartphone — rather, they'll probably sell it to all round feature phone users, which want an extra function or two from time to time. They're already using the same/similar concept with the G700 and G900 models. In that sense, Sony Ericsson might have a winner with the BeiBei.

What follows are several photos of the upcoming device, as well as four screenshots. Enjoy!

RemoteNote

If you don't own a Mac, but always wanted to be able to manage your iPhone Notes from a Computer, you obviously couldn't do it. Both MegaPhone (former iPhoneDrive) and iPhoneNotes are Mac only apps. That has just changed…

Thanks to the new native app called RemoteNote - all users, no matter which OS they're running on their desktop computer, can view and edit notes on their iPhone. The application relies on the WiFi hotspot and grants you to remotely connect to your iPhone and change notes from a web browser. All web browsers are supported — including Safari, IE, Firefox and Opera — but it is required, though, that you’ve Adobe Flash Player installed. In addition, your iPhone needs to be jailbroken as well as Jiggy Runtime installed. Both RemoteNote and Jiggy Runtime are available from Installer.app.

The Apple iPhone is already sold out in the UK, following O2's iPhone price cut, and now the last reliable iPhone stock has run dry. Apple's own on the web store has stopped taking orders for iPhone 8Gb and iPhone 16GB handsets, indicating that Apple is gearing up to release their next-generation iPhone with 3G data connectivity.

Previously, the Apple online store showed delays of 5 to 7 days for all iPhone orders, but Apple has changed the status to “Currently Unavailable.” The global shortfall of iPhone stock, paired with Apple's own shortage, indicates that the 3G iPhone is indeed due to launch soon.

T-Mobile #1 in customer satisfaction with JD PowerT-Mobile's attractively priced wireless rate plans and hip mobile phone lineup have always made T-Mobile USA one of the best values in the US. And, with the launch of the No. 4 US wireless carrier's 1700Mhz AWS-band 3G network, T-Mobile's future as a top-ranked mobile operator is looking good.

JD Power and Associates has just release their first volume of the 2008 US Wireless Retail Sales Satisfaction Survey. The survey was conducted between September 2007 and January 2008 with 6,634 participants. T-Mobile has risen to the top as the #1 US carrier as the US wireless industry as a whole has declined in overall customer satisfaction. “Overall customer satisfaction with retail service has steadily declined as wireless service becomes increasingly widespread, and as products and services have evolved in complexity,” according to Kirk Parsons, senior director of wireless services at J.D. Power and Associates.

T-Mobile took the top spot in the JD Power survey in terms of retail sales staff, store display, store facility, and prices/promotions. Sales staff and store displays were ranked especially high for T-Mobile. Alltel took a close second spot and Verizon Wireless trails in third position.

Sony Ericsson Taiwan flagship store

Sony Ericsson has opened a new flagship store in Taiwan. The grand opening took place today (May 10th) and the ceremony included tons of promo materials for the first visitors, including SE branded bikes and towels. Hmm, why do we care about the promo materials. Guess they just make the scene more compelling and the brand more trustworthy in the eyes of consumers.

Anyway, the Swedish-Japanese handset maker also decided to use the space surrounding the store, hence not only the store visitors, but also the people walking nearby will certainly spot somewhat annoying Sony Ericsson signs and ads. However, the new store keeps the same look and feel as other SE stores around the world. And now more pics.

BlackBerry 9000 to be called BlackBerry Bold?

Yesterday, we posted information about the upcoming BlackBerry 9000. According to Boy Genius, we should expect the official announcement to take place on Monday, May 12th at WES 2008. Now, a new tidbit of information advocates the upcoming smartphone will be called “Bold.” If that's the case, I guess we will see more “Bold” versions, like for example Bold 9310 or Bold 9210 with each of them sporting either WiFi, GPS, or both. In addition, let's not forget two different radio versions — CDMA/EV-DO and GSM/HSDPA, and of course the “Bold global” version which would supersede the 8800 series. We'll certainly have more information on Monday, if the previously posted rumor proved to be true. And I think it will. Stay tuned…

Sony Ericsson R300 Radio, C902 Cyber-shot get FCC approval

Two Sony Ericsson phones have been spotted passing the so called FCC hurdle - the R300 Radio and C902 Cyber-shot. The first one is designed for developing countries to allow users to take radio (both AM and FM) with them, where ever they’re. The other, more interesting device is the latest and baddest Cyber-shot phone so far - C902. As you're probably aware, this face-detection baby packs 5 megapixel camera into a stylish trim casing and we love it for that.

Now the question is when we'll see the mentioned two devices hitting the U.S. market. Honestly, we don't have a clue. As a matter of fact, we don't even know whether the Swedish-Japanese handset maker will ever push them to North American consumers. We certainly hope that will be the case with the C902 model, but our hope isn't actually something you can count on…
