Following on neatly from my last story about Hands-On Mobile having worked on GH3M, I wanted to pick up on a point that was raised by The Inquirer - namely that GH3M isn’t available in the UK or Europe currently - the classic “coming soon” is I am sure applicable, but given it's success (in the US at least), it's a shame we don't yet have it. Therefore, to whet your appetite for this guitar-shredding thrash-a-long of a game, here’s some info about it:

g1.png

  • Rock out anytime, anywhere with this rhythm-based, three button game that stays true to the original.
  • Open with 15 jamming tracks, all taken from the Guitar Hero console series
  • Grow your set list with 3 new songs monthly
  • Play through 3 venues each with 4 set songs and an encore
  • Shred as your favorite characters on four authentic Gibson guitars, in three killer venues
  • Unlock guitars, earn accomplishments and break records
  • Hit the right notes to drive the crowd wild with star power!

Pretty cool right? So check out set list, some classic monsters of rock in there:

(1) Santana - Black Magic Woman
(2) Wolfmother - Woman
(3) AFI - Miss Murder
(4) Red Hot Chili Peppers - Suck My Kiss
(5) Alice Cooper - School's Out
(6) Pat Benatar - Hit Me with Your Best Shot
(7) Van Halen - You Really Got Me
(8) KISS - Strutter
(9) Smashing Pumpkins - Cherub Rock
(10) Stone Temple Pilots - Trippin on A Hole
(11) Matchbook Romance - Monsters
(12) Motley Crue - Shout at the Devil
(13) Black Sabbath - Paranoid
(14) The Allman Brothers Band - Jessica
(15) Scorpions - Rock You Like A Hurricane

If you want to see some more screens, and a trailer, you can go to the Guitar Hero Mobile website here.

According to The Inquirer, it's quite possible that Apple Corps (that's the Beatles' record company, not the Steve Jobs Computer company) will be creating a video game based on the Beatles music catalogue. The Inquirer also believes that because of this, we could get Mobile versions too!

The FT is quoted as saying that the two most likely candidates are MTV Games and Activision. The theory goes that as Hands-On Mobile worked with Activision on the hugely-popular “Guitar Hero 3 Mobile edition”, then they could be in the frame here too. Of course this is largely conjecture, but with a good degree of logic behind it I think.

Friendfeed goes iPhoneHere's a piece of news for all the iPhone users that are at the same time fans of the Friendfeed service. Friendfeed has launched the iPhone-optimized version of their site, allowing you to get in the loop with your friends activities while on-the-go.

And while we're happy to see Friendfeed going the “iPhone route” I can't quite understand their design decisions. Why on Earth they've placed the search bar at the very bottom of the page. Locating it at the top makes much more sense. Their idea seems to grant faster posting rather than browsing. There's a logic behind that move, but still I want to see the search field at the top, always. Period.

To give Friendfeed a try on your iPhone, simply point Safari to friendfeed.com and take it from there.

Sony Ericsson Paris spotted in new color

Although we're not sure when, or even whether (now when Symbian Foundation is formed) Sony Ericsson will officially unveil the Paris, the device has been spotted in new color. Again it's “the wild” where some sneaky insider caught the black and orange version of Paris. We certainly hope the Swedish-Japanese handset maker won't give up on it. Paris looks like a perfect Symbian UIQ device, and I would enjoy using it as much as I enjoy my W960i. Ok, maybe even more. )

BlackBerry Curve 8350?RIM is reportedly preparing another BlackBerry for Nextel's iDEN network. And while you may wonder why would they invest their resources in iDEN, the fact stays that for people looking for push-to-talk service - Nextel rules. In addition, Nextel's service is still being used extensively by some industries, which RIM might want to target as well.

Apparently, the Canadian handset maker will make the WiFi-enabled BlackBerry Curve 8350 for Nextel by the end of the year, though it might slip to early 2009. And that's about all we know at this stage.

I can comprehend RIM wants to expand its market share by targeting as larger audience as possible. However, I don't quite dig RIM's idea to unveil the Curve to iDEN network users at the end of this year. Not that Curve isn’t a great device, on the contrary it gained quite a following, but the idea to introduce the Curve at the end of the same year when Bold and Thunder are introduced is kinda weird. Then again, Nextel's users don't have much choice anyways.

Google Talk goes iPhoneGoogle has released the web-based version of its Google Talk optimized for the iPhone/iPod Touch. The application works from Safari and looks pretty much the same as the GTalk desktop client.

Feature wise, Google made sure you can easily choose people you want to chat (add them to “quicklist”), search contacts and manage multiple conversations. However, because it's a web-based app, there are downsides too. For instance, when you navigate away to another browser window or application, your status will be change to “unavailable” and the GTalk session will be restarted when you return.

It's nice and everything but a surprise to see Google optimizing a whole array of its apps for the iPhone. However, I would advocate using some of the existing native chat applications (in case you’ve a jailbroken iPhone/iPod Touch), or web-based meebo.com which allows you to chat with your buddies who use other IM clients, too.

To use GTalk on your iPhone/iPod Touch, simple point Safari to www.google.com/talk and take it from there.

iPhone SMS text messagesFor those of you currently enjoying the free 200 SMS text messages that come bundled with your EDGE-only iPhone data plan, you're not going to enjoy AT&T's decision to cut the bundled text messages with the upcoming iPhone 3G rate plans. But, that doesn't mean you’ve to sit back and take it.

Here's an interesting way to use your mobile email application to send and receive free SMS text messages without AT&T's help:

  • Create a new email
  • The “To:” field should be filled out with your SMS text message target's phone number followed by “@teleflip.com.” Something like this - 1235551234@teleflip.com
  • Tap out your text message and send it out.
  • The message will be sent to the phone number that you entered preceding “@teleflip.com”
  • Any text message replies will be sent to your email address.

That's it, it's really that easy. Using the iPhone's incredibly integrated email client (that basically does away with any need for MMS - assuming your friends and family are wise to the mobile email) is definitely a novel way to send and receive SMS text messages, and we enjoy it.

Alternatively, you can use the TxtDrop web-app to send free SMS text messages. Simply point your iPhone Safari browser to http://txtdrop.com/iphone/ and go about your merry text messaging way!

AT&T logoNot looking to jump on the iPhone 3G bandwagon next week? AT&T is already a couple steps ahead of you. After all, not everyone is going to find Apple's handset a good fit for their needs.

AT&T has some Windows Mobile smartphones planned for release throughout the rest of 2008, and WMExperts managed to get a hold of the AT&T WinMo roadmap.

Pantech Duo II
Remember the Pantech Duo 2 that we saw pass through the FCC's testing labs? Right, well it seems we were on the ball in predicting that the keyboard/keypad hybid would be headed to AT&T.

The successor to the Pantech Duo, the Pantech Duo 2, will be sporting:

  • Windows Mobile 6.1
  • Tri-band (850/1900/2100Mhz) HSDPA (3.6)/Quad-band (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) GSM/EDGE
  • 528 MHz Processor
  • 128MB RAM / 256MB ROM
  • USB
  • Bluetooth 2.0
  • Micro SD
  • 2 MP Camera
  • GPS

Pantech Duo customers can also anticipate a Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade in October.

Samsung Blackjack 2
While some of us have been lucky enough to already have Windows Mobile 6.1 up and running on our Samsung BlackJack 2 smartphones, the general public will have to wait just a bit longer. The Samsung BJII will be getting the WM6.1 upgrade later this month (July).

Motorola Q9h
If Motorola's answer to the trim smartphone monoblock is more your style, you'll be happy to hear that your Motorola Q9h will be getting jiggy with WinMo 6.1 later this month (July).

Samsung SGH-i788 Blackjack 3
The long-awaited, touchscreen-toting successor to the Samsung BlackJack 2 will be hitting AT&T's network later this year. The US-friendly HSDPA frequency support differentiate the Samsung SGH-i788 from the Samsung SGH-i780. The integrated GPS receiver, 3 megapixel camera, WiFi, 528Mhz CPU, and touchscreen should make the Samsung SGH-i788 BlackJack 3 one of the most anticipated Windows Mobile candybar smartphones to drop this year.

  • Windows Mobile 6.1
  • Tri-band (900/1900/2100Mhz) UMTS/HSDPA (3.6); Quad-band (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) GSM/EDGE
  • 528 MHz processor
  • 128MB RAM/ 256MB ROM
  • Camera 3 MP
  • AGPS
  • VSC
  • WiFi

AT&T Tilt:
The reigning Windows Mobile AT&T flagship will be seeing some Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade-love later this month. The HTC Kaiser (TyTn II) has already been blessed with Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrades courtesy of HTC, but AT&T Tilt users will have to wait for AT&T to roll out the upgraded ROM.

AT&T Tilt 2
What's this? Another successor to the popular HTC TyTn? That's right! AT&T will be launching the AT&T Tilt 2 (HTC TyTn III?) later this year. We're assuming that the HTC-sourced Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional smartphone will replace the AT&T Tilt as the flagship WinMo offering from AT&T. And, with HSDPA (3.6Mbps), WiFi, aGPS, 3 megapixel camera, and a speedy 528Mhz processor, the AT&T Tilt 2 will no doubt take its seat at the head of the WinMo table in AT&T's house.

  • Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional Edition
  • Tri-band (900/1900/2100Mhz) UMTS/HSDPA (3.6); Quad-band (850/900/1800/1900Mhz) GSM/EDGE
  • Qualcomm 528 MHz processor
  • 256MB ROM/ 128MB RAM
  • 3.0 MP camera
  • WiFi
  • Bluetooth 2.0
  • PTT
  • aGPS
  • VSC

Samsung Omnia
This one is pure speculation at this point, but we're also hearing that another Samsung handset is scheduled to hit AT&T in Q4 2008. With previous rumors pointing to the Samsung Omnia coming to AT&T, we're going to take a barely educated guess and peg the Samsung Omnia as the Samsung device slated for AT&T's network later this year.

So, are you still planning to get that iPhone 3G? With all these attractive options in the pipeline for AT&T, we can definitely see a good chunk of AT&T's subscriber-base waiting it out for a Windows Mobile handset.
