The Motorola Active W450 in Mandarin Orange

The Motorola Active W450 in Mandarin Orange

At the beginning of September Dusan reported that the Yellow MOTOACTV W450 might be coming to T-Mobile. Well, today we’ve confirmation of that, however according to the product shots, it looks to be more of an orange version (Mandarin Orange, in fact) of the rugged clamshell device.

If you’re an active person that enjoys the outdoors, the Motorola Active (as it is also known) was made for hiking and other high-energy activities. The outside of the device has a rubber-like surface, and has a built-in location for you to clip the phone to your belt.

To ensure you’re covered should anything go wrong while you’re hiking, or enjoying the outdoors in general… T-Mo is preloading the device with Mayo Clinic software to help you get through any medical issues.

Nothing too spectacular here, but if you need a rugged and compact phone, this could be it. The MOTOACTV features a 1.3MP camera, media playback and a regular microSD slot that can hold up to 2GB of flash storage.

You can pick one up for $29.99 from T-Mo on a 2-year plan (after discounts).

It seems pretty unlikely, but there’s some word kicking around that Telus will host a CDMA version of the BlackBerry Bold, presumably as the 9030. Considering RIM’s typical timeline for getting things over to the CDMA side (upwards of a year), odds are we won’t see the BlackBerry 9000 making the leap after a few short months of the GSM launch. Still, if the rumours follow through, the Bold could be on Telus before the end of the year, which would mark a considerable shift in RIM’s CDMA strategy.

Not too much is known about the Sony Ericsson Rika at this point, but that hasn’t stopped the rumors of spy shots from coming in. From what I can tell, the Rika looks like a walkman model of the G705. So, get ready to load her up with music. I would also assume it has 3G support, but you know what happens when you assume don’t you?

Resident Evil remake for Wii probably not leaving Japan screenshot

If you were looking forward to waggling your way through the original Resident Evil, I’ve some potentially bad news for you. According to a post on Capcom’s forums, the Wii remake of the classic game does not look enjoy it will be venturing on to consoles outside of Japan.

Chris Svensson, VP of Strategic Planning and Business Development at Capcom, made the post in response to a question as to the necessity that such a port even be made. “In Japan, Zero sold well indicating that many people have never played the title and there’s demand for it. This project is a reaction to the sale of Zero,” says Svensson. He goes on to comment, “like Zero, this is Japan only. That could change but that’s the current situation.”

This sits just fine with me. The GameCube port of Resident Evil isn’t difficult to find anyway and I don’t think we really need any more motion control-enabled ports. Were any of you hoping to get your hands on this?

Earlier today, we were sent a USA This day article about Rock Band (via Kombo) that contained an alarming snippet of info regarding Rock Band 2 for the Wii.

“Unfortunately, as with the first Rock Band,” USA Today’s Marc Saltzman wrote, “the Nintendo Wii and Sony PlayStation 2 versions of Rock Band 2 don’t offer any World wide web connectivity for multiplayer gaming or downloadable music.”

Before the World wide web exploded with the anger of a million Wii owners, we went straight to the source. While MTV Games hasn’t revealed information on the Wii (or PlayStation 2) version of the title, they assure us that the comment is “untrue,” and that the Wii version of the title will “will definitely be fully featured.”

This is the same line we heard last month during Rock Band 2 Xbox 360 media tours, where the company was tight lipped on the version being made available for Nintendo’s console this holiday. For their sake, we hope it’s true — Activision Blizzard has already confirmed (and shown) a full featured version of their music title, Guitar Hero: World Tour, complete with functioning music sharing, on the web play, and (potential) downloadable content.

Nintendo brains say that WiiMusic could be an educational tool screenshot

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata and developer Shigeru Miyamoto sat down to have a speak with each other for Nintendo’s official WiiMusic page to discuss the joys of playing WiiMusic. One of the topics covered was that of education. Both the men stated there was some inherent educational value in the game, which probably has something to do with the fact that WiiMusic doesn’t require any skill, rhythm, or taste to pick up.

From the interview:

Iwata: Well, there, with Wii Music, there’s a strong possibility of raising people’s basic level of music education.

Miyamoto: Yes. Thus, from now, I’ve even thought it would it would be great if kindergartens or elementary schools got Wii Music and began kid’s music education with that…

Honestly, if I could teleport back to elementary school and have my recorder and “Hot Cross Buns” sheet music revoked for WiiMusic, I probably would have never picked up another instrument in my life. How does a game where one aimlessly hits buttons and sways around to canned music instruct music? Miyamoto and Iwata forgot to address that apparently.

At least there’s still hope that Nintendo could make the collegiate life easier. I suggest WiiHesiod, where players can act out the Archaic period lifestyle and obligations. WiiPurgatory would suffice as it could easily give inference on the usages of indulgences pre-European Reformations. Make that happen, Nintendo.

Animal Crossing hits Europe in December, complete with silly Australian name screenshot

Animal Crossing: City Folk has a really stupid substitute name in Australia. When it reaches the shores of Kangaroo Land, it’s going to be called the rather cringeworthy Animal Crossing: Let’s Go to the City.

If you’re European, you can stop laughing at that horrible title — that’s what it’s called over here too.

Animal Crossing’s Wii debut is scheduled to hit Europe in time for Christmas, which makes a pleasant change of pace from the six-month waiting times that Nintendo usually enforces. The relatively quick release, however, is countered by the fact that you have to seriously go into a game store and ask for “Let’s Go to the City.”

I’m no Animal Crossing fan, but it’s cool that Nintendo is managing to get this out of the Euro door near Christmas, which is likely around the same time the US will get it. It proves that European Wii releases can be done close to US ones though, so let’s try and see more of that, yes?

Resident Evil re-remake coming to Wii ... seriously screenshot

Sometimes a publisher must sit down and think to itself: “Okay, we’ve remade this game roughly 10,000 times. This is stupid.” Capcom has no such self-awareness, however, and has announced that yet another Resident Evil remake is on the way. This time it’s a Wii version of the GameCube version of the PlayStation version of the first Resident Evil.

This remake of a remake will of course feature obligatory waggle controls, but may also be played with the GameCube controller if you feel like negating the entire point of the thing. This joke is due out on December 25 in Japan.
