Despite Capcom being one of only a handful of third party developers to have done the Wii any sort of justice, bitchy Wii owners love accusing the company of not caring. Apparently, Capcom is obligated to try and bring the likes of Street Fighter IV and Resident Evil 5 to the Wii, despite the obvious stupidity of such a demand.

Capcom at least needs no excuse when explaining why Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and Bionic Commando: Rearmed won’t come to WiiWare alongside the XBLA and PSN versions. According to the studio, both games are simply too massive for WiiWare’s restrictive file sizes. The only way a Wii owner could play these games would be if Capcom released them on disc — which isn’t really efficient.

“Part of the reason HD Remix and BCR are digital is because we don’t believe they’re the right content for the retail channel (at least, not as stand alone experiences),” explains Capcom’s Christian Svensson. “The economics would be highly unfavorable as compared to their digital counterparts. And Wiiware, we’re finding, only works for titles built from the ground up for Wiiware as the lead SKU given the filesize restrictions.

“… [SFIITHDR] couldn’t ever be WiiWare, even at 480p. File size is just too massive given the storage restrictions for WiiWare. Theoretically it could be disc based but there are no plans at the moment.”

Svensson has also addressed the demand for SFIV on the Wii, saying it would be possible with “reasonable visual downgrades” but also questioned the use of the Wii’s control scheme with such a title.

Personally, I don’t know why Wii owners care. If you want current-gen games, get a current-gen system, it’s a pretty simple equation. Stuff like the current Dead Rising port shows that if you want a 360/PS3 game on the Wii, all you’re asking for is a nasty, ugly shadow of a game’s former self. Why people want that, outside of a childish need to have everything regardless of quality, is beyond me.

Fishing Master World Tour -- FISH ON! screenshot

Fishing Master World Tour is the sequel to Hudson’s original Fishing Master that came out last year. In Fishing Master, players will fight against mutant alien fishes that are trying to conquer the world. OK, so that doesn’t actually happen, although you will find a couple of mutant fishes in the game …

Fishing Master World Tour will see players going around the world to become the best fishing master around. It’s kind of like Pokemon, except instead of training the creatures you catch, you eat them. Reel in the jump to find out more on Fishing Master World Tour.

Kororinpa screenshot

Marble Saga: Kororinpa is the sequel to last year’s Kororinpa: Marble Mania for the Wii. In Marble Saga, players will tilt the world with the Wiimote to get their marble to the end of the level and collect diamonds along the way.

Sounds pretty simple, but it’s not as simple as it sounds. Marble Saga is a great challenge and you can find out more by hitting the jump for my impressions on Marble Saga: Kororinpa.

Snowboard Riot screenshot

If you’re like me, then you’ll probably find most extreme sports to be, well, boring. I’m in no way saying that the people that perform in these sports are talentless, as it takes a lot of skill to do what they do. It just doesn’t interest me.

So I wasn’t looking too forward to trying out Snowboard Riot at Hudson’s offices last week. That is, until I found out you can blow people up in this game. Shred on over the jump for my preview of Snowboard Riot.

smiles mandatory on covers of Wii EA Sports titles screenshot

The folks over at MTV Multiplayer have some keen eyes for videogame covers, that’s for sure. They happened to notice that all the boxes for the Wii versions of EA Sports’ games (marketed under the “All-Play” brand) are very different from the artwork on the non-Wii versions. Not only do the cover athletes seem to have more celebratory or upbeat poses, they also all happen to feature wide smiles. Curious, Multiplayer asked EA Sports president Peter Moore about this recently, and he stated it was “something [he] wanted”:

Brett Favre was the best example. The intensity for Favre on the [non-Wii ‘Madden 09’] cover — for me, it didn’t feel right for the experience I knew we were developing on Wii. So I said to the team everybody should smile on the Wii package. It embodies the experience. If you played ‘Madden’ on the Wii and you’re playing with guys with the heads the size of five watermelons, it’s hard not to smile. We wanted to be able to deliver that experience on the packaging.

I don’t know about you, but when Brett Favre points at me with a smile on his face, in a pose akin to the one I’m holding in my avatar, I feel like a badass — a champion, even. Hell, the man has led the New York Jets to an 8-3 record and a spot atop the AFC East, a remarkable 180

Space Invaders Get Even on WiiWare screenshot

We keep hearing about Space Invaders Get Even, but we’re not hearing enough. Taito’s arcade classic gone 3D came out in Japan some time ago, but there’s been no mention of a North American release… until now.

The fine folks at GoNintendo tell us that Square Enix announced that this WiiWare title will be hitting the channel on December 1st. Set 30 years after the original, you become the invaders, controlling the UFO and attacking helpless citizens.
