Space Invaders Get Even, Pit Crew Panic!, Metal Slug 2 screenshot

What better time to invade than when North Americans are just waking up from their turkey comas?

Space Invaders Get Even (1 player, 500 Wii Points), Taito’s WiiWare title that turns the tables of the classic Space Invaders franchise by putting players in control over UFOs. I had a chance to play the game at Tokyo Game Show and it played out mostly like a point-and-click affair, with the nunchuck’s analog stick controlling the UFO and the Wii Remote pointing determining where I fired; Earthlings didn’t stand a chance. The game has been out in Japan for a while and just recently hit Europe, so if you’ve dropped some cash on it already, let us know what you think.

A game Hamza just recently went hands-on with, Pit Crew Panic! (1-4 players, 800 Wii Points) also makes it way to Nintendo’s digital download service this day. Controlling an all-female pit crew, you’ll be tasked with repairing an assortment of cars powered by incredibly random s**t, including wedding cakes and the Golden Gate Bridge. As Hamza noted, “Pit Crew Panic! is weird. Like, really weird.”

Finally, Metal Slug 2 (NeoGeo, 1-2 players, 900 Wii Points) is available on the Virtual Console today. Great game, to be sure. But when you can pick up a new copy of Metal Slug Anthology (which contains seven Metal Slug games, including this sequel) for $19.99, it seems a bit pointless to spend nine of your hard-earned dollars on the Virtual Console title. Or am I missing something here?

Press release after the jump.

Fatal Frame IV confirmed for Europe, coming to US at some point screenshot

Fatal Frame IV, the latest in the popular survival horror series, has been in a questionable place regarding a North American release, with Nintendo of America being typical NoA and seeming unlikely to publish. At least Nintendo of Europe is doing PAL gamers a service, as it will be bringing the snap-happy scarefest to Nintendo’s forgotten territory.

There is no official date for the European release, but February 6 has been thrown around as a likely candidate.

As far as the North American release goes, XSEED has essentially confirmed it, but won’t shed any more light than that. “If you’re speaking about Fatal Frame IV for the Wii then it’s coming to the US, although it won’t be by us,” said an XSEED rep. “Can’t tell you who’s bringing it over, but keep your eyes peeled for an official announcement, hopefully sometime soon.”

Good news for Wii owners who want a little more horror … intentional horror that’s, not the byproduct of terror that comes from 90% of the Wii’s “casual” library.

Recently, Ken Moore made the Wii remote useful. Instead of using it for pretend bowling or boxing, Moore turned his attention on making the controller a pretty slick theremin. While we have the ability to debate his motivation, the end product is undisputedly rad. In the above video, you’ll see Moore speak about what he did to create his device, even though his blog can give you the big-time specifics.

And the best part about this entire process is that it only costs 35 dollars. The problem for a guy like me is messing around with wires. Sure, the stray LEDs only need to go to a battery, but I’m classically poor at anything slightly technical. Moore used a Roland JV-1080 synth to make all the creepy (but awesome) sounds.

If you were wondering about the practicality of such an item, check out Moore’s rendition of the Star Trek theme. It’s a wonder that we don’t have bands that only play theremins.

Day of Crisis heads to the States after all? screenshot

After lackluster sales in both Europe and Japan, and a tongue-lashing from the Regginator himself, it looked like Disaster: Day of Crisis would never have the chance to bring its terrorist-blasting, CPR-pumping ways to the USA. Disaster is of the few games published by Nintendo to feature absolutely no Sci-Fi/Fantasy elements or cartoony characters, and instead bases it’s world around the pseudo-reality found in most large budget Hollywood blockbusters. To deny a game like that US localization would be a huge slap in the face to the Bad Boys 2 loving American public, and a surefire way to lose money.

Disaster might be another mini-game collection, but the mini-games here involve using Mario Kart Wii-style steering-wheel controls to drive a sports car away from a rushing wave of molten lava, and using the Wii remote’s pointer functionality to aim a shotgun at baby bears. Does that sound like a game that wouldn’t do well in the USA?

Well, it looks like Dervin Camden of NoA agrees with me, as he’s reportedly sending out emails stating that Disaster: Day of Crisis is coming to the Says after all. Don’t believe me? Then why not drop Dervin a line yourself? Best case scenario you get some inside info on NoA’s release schedule, worst case scenario you get to interact with a guy named “Dervin”.

People seem to have taken the term “Black Friday” quite literally today — it’s been a rather depressing day, sadly. I hate to contribute salt to an open wound, but it’s a slow day and nobody’s going to see this anyway.

Above is a trailer for 2K Sports’ MLB Superstars, which we told you about in early September. Way back then, we predicted that it would suck, just from the mere premise, and now that we’ve got video of the game, those suspicions have only been confirmed. I can’t even quite tell what exactly is going on in this trailer, but suffice it to say that it (A) involves waggling a Wiimote, and (B) should not be played by humans … ever. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy.

MLB Superstars was released on November 10th without much fanfare, and the reasons behind that lack of promotion are now apparent. Hell, the only review on Metacritic is from IGN, and they went way beyond their usual “7-to-9 scale” to trash the game. In any case, the box art is also available in the gallery, but please, don’t buy this game. By doing so, you’re effectively telling 2K Sports and every other third-party publisher that such shovelware is okay, and that they should continue to pump it out for the Wii. The world doesn’t need any more of that craptastic garbage.
