When I first got word that Konami was working on a Castlevania fighting game for the Wii, I was pretty sure it was going to suck. Then, when I was lucky enough to play the game at E3 08, I was sure it was going to suck. Playing is believing, after all, and playing Castlevania Judgment was about as fun as toothache. The controls were ridiculously imprecise, the graphics were unsightly, and the gameplay consisted of nothing more than pure waggle. That’s right folks, I said pure waggle. If that doesn’t make you squirm in your seats, I don’t know what will. So if the game is so bad, then why did I sign up for this review? Well, part of it has to do with the fact that the final build of the game is compatible with the GameCube or Classic Controllers, so it’s got to play better than it did at E3. But more than that, I bought Castlevania Judgment because I love Castlevania, and I know that the current producer of the series, IGA, cares about Castlevania too. I just couldn’t believe that he would permit any game that carries the Castlevania name to completely suck. Was I right in keeping my faith in IGA above, or does Castlevania Judgment bite the huge one? Hit the jump for the answer. source Destructoid
If you’re an older Wii owner, you might have been keeping an eye on Deadly Creatures, a game that has always seemed to me enjoy it didn’t belong on the decidedly family-friendly console (except, of course, for its motion controls). The brawler/thriller, in which you play as a tarantula and a scorpion, was originally scheduled for release on Halloween, but was pushed back to a mid-December bow. Now, IGN is reporting that the game won’t ship until February of next year. It’s probably for the better, since gamers are surely busy with all of the great games that have come out in the past few months. More development time never injured a game, and neither did “breathing room” in terms of a glut of games. I’m certainly still looking forward to Deadly Creatures! But if your interest has at all been piqued by this game, be sure to check out my preview of an early build from June, and Nick’s hands-on impressions from April. There’s even more information on the Rainbow Studios-developed, THQ-published title’s official Web site. [Via IGN — thanks, Adam!] source Destructoid
If you’ve been to a shopping mall lately, you might be able to relate to Frank in this gameplay video of Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop. Sure, a zombie-infested shopping mall is worse than Black Friday, but only slightly. This new video gives us a really good look at what we have the ability to expect from gameplay. There might not be as many zombies, but it still looks like a lot of fun. I’ll state that I have the ability to already tell that I’ll hate that clown fight. Waggle to duck? Something tells me that it’s not going to work how I’d expect it to.
