OK, I finally want this game. It’s been a long time coming, but thanks to this new trailer, I’m finally sure that Dead Rising on the Wii will be fun. I can still see why some die-hard Dead Rising fans will consider this port to be useless, but for people like me that prefer Resident Evil 4 to just about any other 3D shooter ever made, Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop is starting to look mighty fine.

Coraline screens show dancing mice and brilliant art screenshot

D3Publisher recently revealed several new screens for Coraline, a game based on a Neil Gaimen novel and an upcoming flick of the same name. The screenshots that we were given are for the PlayStation 2 version of the game, but are probably applicable to the Nintendo DS and Wii versions that’ll be arriving in stores at the same time early next year.

As one can readily observe from the screenshots, Coraline will task players with puzzles, exploration, and some kind of rhythm mini-game with mice. The tails on the mice are grossly disproportional to their tiny bodies. It is sad to see a developer miss the mark so badly, especially considering that they probably modeled the mice in Coraline after the real marching band of mice currently living in my basement.

The goal of the game’s heroine, Coraline, isn’t exactly so clear. It appears as though it has something to do with traveling to a mystical (and mysterious) place dubbed Other World and dealing with an evil hag named Other Mom. After hearing this, we placed a call to my mother to find out if she was in the game or if she would comment on its story elements. She didn’t respond by press time.

Around the Destructoid office, the Wii and its motion controls are always a hot topic. We had a very lengthy discussion (read: argument) a few days back concerning the controls, with the topic centered around how hand movements seem to make what would be simple button presses more difficult.

Normally, I’m a proud member of the buttons over waggle group. I completely stood my ground during this discussion, but sometimes the Wii control scheme just makes sense. It totally does in this case.

I love a good casual fishing game, and Hudson’s Fishing Master World Tour fits the bill with its over-the-top Japanese presentation and flashy graphics that seem to make something as mundane as fishing seem exciting. Anyone who has played Sega’s arcade fishing offerings can tell you how much more fun it is to actually feel like you’re reeling a massive one in. Sure, it’s not quite the same, but the Sega titles don’t have island-ish hip-hop and anime dogs jumping in the air when you’re catching swordfish out of the ocean.

This sequel to last year’s Fishing Master is coming in January of 2009. It will support four-person multiplayer, and now has leaderboards to show who reeled in the biggest catch.
