Echoes of Time bonuses ahoy screenshot

If you live in Japan, buying Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time will score you a soundtrack sampler of past Final Fantasy themes. Pretty standard stuff, and barely worth posting about.

Now, if you buy the Wii version of the game, you get a happy-fun extra extra bonus. Each and each Echoes of Time disc contains a new trailer for the long-awaited Wii title Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers. Keep in mind, Echoes of Time is that new Final Fantasy game coming to both the DS and the Wii that offers no visual upgrades between the two versions. So basically, if you buy the Wii’s Echoes of Time, you have to deal with DS-quality graphics while reaping none of the rewards of portability.

Square Enix must have sensed that consumers weren’t going to be too keen on that bargain, and as such have decided to throw this trailer at us in hopes of seducing the few suckers out there who were even remotely considering buying the “ugly-even-for-a-Wii-game” Wii rendition of Echoes of Time. If I sound bitter, it’s because now I completely have to buy the Wii rendition of Echoes of Time because I can’t say no to those God damn Crystal Bears Bearers. I’ve tried. I’ve looked at those partially transparent little bastards and tried to state “NO,” but instead it just keeps coming out “…I love you.”

Both versions of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time will be released in Japan on January 29, 2009.

High Voltage sends a wee Mr. Ford from The Conduit screenshot

The last minute holiday cards are landing in our mailbox in the final days before Christmas, and we can’t get enough of them.

High Voltage is sticking with the “make our characters look cute” theme, with their holiday card depicting The Conduit’s lead character, Mr. Ford, receiving his “All Seeing Eye” for the holidays. How adorable!

I wrote this game off as a Cooking Mama rip-off early on, but the screens and details coming out here lately slowly changed my mind. If anything, this is a “rip” of the Food Network television show, and I mean that in a good way.

I’m not feeling the trailer, though. Sure, the mosaic of tiny screens shows off a lot of the game play, but who can tell what’s really going on here? And what is the Chairman yelling in the background? He sounds angry! I would be too if they modeled me like that.

The characters don’t really look like their real-life counterparts. Well, Alton Brown kind of does. But the Chairman is obviously deformed, though. At least the in-game food looks good, and it seems that you can dress your own plate to your liking. That’s cool.

I’m still looking forward to playing this. It remains to be seen how creativity with the theme ingredient plays into the game. Will it be preset dishes you choose from? And then just go through the motions? I hope not.
