TMNT: Smash Up trailers has turtle, human, and robot power screenshot

I won’t lie and say I’m a massive fan of Nintendo’s Smash Bros., but Ubisoft’s attempt to mash the popular series together with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has my attention. See, I was somewhat of a Ninja Turtles fiend as a child, collecting everything from the Playmate’s toys to the original Mirage Studios comic books.

While Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Smash Up is based on some kind of weird aesthetic and universe I’m not entirely familiar with, I’m still holding out some hope. In this latest trailer for the game, playable characters are revealed for the fighter: Raphael, Casey Jones, Foot Ninja, and… Utrominator.

Those first three, I’m with ya’, Ubisoft. But Utrominator? I’ve no idea who or what that thing is. It does some horrible thing about a minute into the trailer, something that nearly makes it look like Krang. But it’s not Krang, according to the Internet, and that upsets me. It upsets me quite a bit.

Pre-order Metroid Prime Trilogy via Gamestop, get shirt screenshot

If you love Metroid Prime and have a thing for minimalist T-shirt designs, then you might want to consider pre-ordering the Metroid Prime Trilogy from GameStop. Doing so will result in you getting your clammy hands on the above T-shirt, which is simple in design, but is sure to tug a few Nintendo fanboy heartstrings.

This is tempting of course, but if you pre-order Metroid Prime Trilogy through me, you’ll get an exclusive Samus Aran collector’s figurine that I’ve fashioned out of some hair and wet cat food. You’ll have to think carefully about where you do your shopping.

Review: Let's Catch screenshot

In 1963, Alfred Hitchcock directed a horror film about birds. Not super-strong hulk birds, or vagina dentata mouthed devil-birds, just regular birds. Pretty weak subject matter for a horror film, but some say that was the whole point.

Overlord II is out, celebrate with some wallpapers screenshot

Three hot looking Overlord games are out, and my review copies should be arriving today. To celebrate, Codemasters has released a bunch of rather cool wallpapers, commemorating the release of Overlord II, Overlord: Minions and Overlord: Dark Legend.

I’ve been tapping my foot impatiently for Overlord II ever since it was announced, as the original game was possibly my favorite new title of 2007. The use of evil little Gremlins and dark sense of humor made the game far more compelling to me than Pikmin, and it looks like the sequel is going to be more of the same, but with an even greater slant on pure evil.

Play PlayStation 2 ports on the Wii with a PS2 controller screenshot

Dongle action!

I can’t really quantify why I want this Japanese PS2-to-Wii controller dongle converter from Gametech, but I do. I mean, I could have just purchased the PlayStation 2 version of stated games rather than buying the Wii version. But I didn’t. I wanted to improve the balance of black game cases to white ones, I guess.

Guitar Hero 5 ESRB listing hints at Nirvana track, more screenshot

The good old ESRB is at it again, rating Guitar Hero 5 the predictable “T for Teen” rating, and revealing some track listing details in the process.

In its description the ESRB reveals some scandalous lyrical content for some already announced songs: Kings of Leon’s “Sex on Fire” (“Your sex is on fire”) and Elton John’s “Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting)” (“Wanna get a belly full o’ beer”).

Some other lyrical content listed points to other, unannounced tracks. “He’s gonna do another strip tease” is likely a reference to lyrics in Iggy Pop’s “Lust for Life,” with “Light Me up a cigarette” being a line from Sublime’s “What I Got.” Another snippet of lyrics, “I’m so horny” could be a reference to an Ashanti track but is more likely Nirvana’s “Lithium” (“I’m so horny/That’s okay/My will is good”).

Last week, one person in the comments of our Guitar Hero 5 box art story hinted that “Lithium,” “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” and “Come As You Are” would all appear on the Guitar Hero 5 disc. While the rumor is mostly unsubstantiated, it’s interesting to note that those were the only three tracks from Nirvana’s classic Nevermind that were mysteriously missing from the Nirvana track pack released for Rock Band 2 a while back.

The plot, it thickens.

Breaking: Red Steel 2 will have swords and guns screenshot

We expect games with promise, thus we’re rubbing our hands together nervously for Red Steel 2. Sure, we were all burned the first time around. But, hey, nobody knew what exactly the Wii remote was capable of doing. Red Steel was a console launch title: we should have smelled its stench a mile away.

In the video below the fold, Red Steel 2 creative director Jason Vandenberg talks about Ubisoft’s upcoming and colorful sequel at E3 2009. He mentions that his studio will keep the Asian feel of the first title, as well as the whole sword and gunplay thing. The key to the latter two talking points, of course, is that they will actually work this time around. Thanks, WiiMotion Plus.

This video is also available on the Nintendo Channel. So, if you’re too hip to use a silly Computer browser, feel free to boot up the console and stream it. We won’t make fun of you.

Check out the official Metroid Prime Trilogy box art screenshot

That’s right, we’ve managed to get our hands on the final box art for the upcoming Metroid Prime Trilogy coming out for the Wii on August 24th. Not only will the game come in a neat looking case, but there is also a stylish sleeve surrounding it for DOUBLE the box art!

While the 2D Metroid games are still my favorite, I really liked the Prime series and thought it did a great job translating the feel of the original into a 3D setting. I also think that Metroid Prime 3 had the ideal use of motion control on the Wii thus far, so I’m pretty excited to see the other two games getting the same treatment.

For now, this is the only place you can see it, so check out the box art in the gallery below. Are you guys going to be picking this up, or is Metroid Prime not your thing?

Baseballs make things explode in 4th trailer for The Bigs 2 screenshot

People love to see sh*t blow up. Take, for instance, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which opens this day. It’s a Michael Bay flick that’s currently sitting pretty at 21% on Rotten Tomatoes — but reviews be damned, studio executives expect the film to rake in about $175 million through the weekend. Go figure.

So when you send a baseball screaming out of the yard in The Bigs 2, it’s going to do some damage. For proof, watch the trailer below the fold, which features lots of exploding lights

Rumor: Netflix streaming on the Wii rears its head... again screenshot

Spotted by Joystiq, the survey suggests a “Netflix Instant Streaming” disc would be required to be in the console in order to stream the content; the disc would be free. Previous questionnaires have noted this disc as well, which would hint that this disc option (versus a new channel update, for instance) seems likely if Netflix does come to the Wii in some capacity.

Joystiq also notes that when the disc was mentioned in the past, it was being offered for $9.99. While the idea of throwing in a Netflix disc to stream content already has us raising our eyebrows, “free” would definitely ease that particular blow.

When contacted for comment, Nintendo was not surprisingly silent; the company’s President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime recently stated that if it were to do streaming on the Wii, it would do something “different.” Netflix on the other hand is all about it, “always looking for ways to expand its service,” but states “for now our game platform is the Xbox 360.”

I guess the real question is, do you really want Netflix on your Wii? Take our poll after the jump and let us know.
