No matter how much you yourself support mature games on the Wii, and tell your friends to get them because a lot of them are really good, it seems that they’re having troubles selling up to expectations. Our own Johnathan Holmes has a few suggestions about how to fix the issue, but Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has a bit of an easier solution: lower expectations.

After discussing the poor Avatar sales on a company conference call, Guillemot was asked about expectations for the upcoming sequel to their terrible Wii FPS. “For Avatar we stated 2.5 million units and our expectations were more in the 3.5-4 million [region]. On Red Steel we decided, in our expectations, to divide the quantity by two and previously we had around a million,” he said.

It seems like he’s saying that the lowered expectations are more because of the poor sales of their games in general, but looking at the sales numbers for some of the other games out there on the Wii this is probably a good idea. I’ve always thought that thinking of mature Wii games as niche titles (which many of them are anyway) makes those lower sales numbers seem much superior.

Also of note is that the game’s official info page now has a release date of March 23.
