Bloomberg is reporting that the sales of the PlayStation 3 are swiftly gaining ground on the Xbox 360. Unfortunately for Sony, the fight is only to see who can win the crown of second place. The Wii has had an unrelenting death grip on first for a good time now. According to Sony’s chief executive officer Howard Stringer, it doesn’t matter where the Wii is, in fact, he doesn’t even think about it as a force to be reckoned with:
I’ve played a Nintendo Wii. I don’t see it as a competitor. It’s more of an expensive niche game device. We’re selling a lot of PlayStation 3s now and it’s still the best way to purchase a Blu-ray player.
Stringer made this comment in an interview at a conference in Idaho last week. Bloomberg couldn’t catch a Nintendo executive for comment on the quote. Probably because they were all too busy building mansions and yachts out of cash from the sales of the Wii. Microsoft’s David Dennis got in on the article with the a much more subtle line of “the race is far from over and we are confident that we have a winning strategy.”
Personally, I love that Sony and Microsoft are beginning to get neck and neck in sales. The competition can only mean great things for consumers. Yet, I wonder what is up with the particularly rabid Wii comments? It must really injured to still not be considered the leading console after all those years of leading the pack last generation. For now, we’ll leave these guys to have a nice interview fight, and hopefully reap the rewards from the clash of consoles at E3 this year.

So, as you read earlier, Dyson and I got to preview Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for every platform. The game is going to be relatively similar for each platform, with a few notable differences here and there.
The most evident variations are in the Wii version, and there are a couple of things that really set it apart from the other versions. Obviously, the Wiimote motion sensing is the main difference, but there’s one other thing that the Wii version has that the Xbox 360 and PS3 won’t have: a versus mode.

I know, if you don’t like Pokemon, it’s pretty much a given that you aren’t going to want to watch the video above. You should though, firstly because the player gets a ridiculous chain and it’s fun to watch, but secondly (and more importantly), because of the sounds and Pikachu’s reaction when the player starts to get the chain. It sounds like being at an Orbital concert on illegal substances with Pikachu perched on one shoulder cheering you on….something I kind of hope never happens to me in real life.

According to Nintendo’s president Satoru Iwata, the laughable 512 megs of internal storage on the Wii only seems to be a concern for a ‘”small number” of customers. This is what he told investors recently, before hinting at a possible solution in the future, if only to appease “the most avid players.” (Also known “no longer their target audience” or “an afterthought.”)
“We have to review the ideal possible solution to eliminate their inconvenience,” he said, possibly forgetting that the Wii has both a USB port and a slot for an SD card.
Look, with WiiWare set to launch worldwide — and the already successful Virtual Console — it’s unbelievable that a “solution” hasn’t been introduced already. Honestly, I’ve downloaded a handful of Virtual Console games and have a number of saved games on my console, and I don’t know for sure whether or not space is running low. Sorry, I don’t talk magical fairy “blocks.”
Has anyone here actually had an issue where they’d to delete something off of their Wii’s internal memory to make room?

After last night, THQ, I officially give you free reign to wine and dine me anytime. You see, I headed out to the New York Hall of Science in Flushing yesterday for THQ’s WALL•E event, and I had a great time. THQ held the event because they’re publishing a motion picture tie-in videogame for the upcoming Disney/Pixar animated film WALL•E, a motion picture that I’ve been very, very excited about for a long, long time.
The game is being developed by Heavy Iron Studios, and representatives from Pixar, THQ, and Heavy Iron were on hand to show off the game. As a special treat, Jeff Garlin (of Curb Your Enthusiasm fame) was also in attendance; he voices one of the characters in the film. But I’m sure you’re all dying to hear about the game itself, so here we go: hit the jump for my impressions of WALL•E.

This day, Newsweek’s videogame blog Level Up drops the exclusive first information on Rubik’s World, an upcoming Wii and Nintendo DS title based on Ernő Rubik’s classic puzzles.
Set to hit Nintendo’s consoles this fall, Rubik’s World is being billed as an “otherworldly game” that’ll show players what the inside of a Rubik’s Cube looks like. Set up as a collection of puzzle games, the game will tests players by having them construct 3D objects, navigating through mazes and most interestingly, creating their own soundtracks. Both versions will have surprising on the internet social features, like a message board of some sort of the Wii.

Poor Clover studios. Its critically acclaimed Okami never sold well, the studio got dissolved, and now, to add insult to injury, Capcom had decided not to credit the developers in its beloved adventure game’s Wii port, effectively severing ties between Clover and its creation.
“I feel dejected, and not only because my own name has been erased from my creation,” confessed Okami director Hideki Kamiya on his blog.”Of course we have pride in our work and we want to scream ‘We made this!’ from the top of our lungs. But more than that, the fact that they cut the entire staff is utterly deplorable.”
Capcom’s excuse is that the Clover logo was contained on the credits, which were part of a pre-rendered cutscene. That’s an incredibly lame excuse as far as I’m concerned. I know Capcom seems to have trouble with removing logos from images, as the watermark nonsense proved, but come on. The people who actually made the game deserve credit.

Mario Kart Wii has finally launched around the world, and Nintendo has announced today that they’ll be kicking off the first worldwide tournaments.
Available via the in-game Mario Kart Channel, the first tournament has racers competing for the fastest time on the Mario Circuit. You’ll also be able to attempt to break records as often as you like throughout the duration of the tournament, so if you blow it once, never fear. The ideal time will then be recorded and added to the worldwide ranking, and the player with the fastest time will win … bragging rights?
Since finishing my review, I’ve to be honest — I haven’t really been playing a lot of Mario Kart Wii. Something about an Eastern European dude and his cousin. But I may fire up my Wii to participate, although I don’t have a snow balls chance in hell of winning.
Is anyone here confident enough in their skills that they’re willing to begin speaking smack right now?

I’d guess so, especially after seeing this new video on IGN. They recieved this teaser trailer from Ubisoft. The silly scene involves a Rabbid (from Rayman Raving Rabbids) and the Balance Board that’ll come packed in with WiiFit when its released on Might 19th. The company isn’t commenting on what this video means, but I think it’s fairly obvious: the next Rayman Raving Rabbids title will use the WiiFit Balance Board in some fashion.
