Nintendo's FlingSmash: Tennis, pinball, platforming screenshot

What do you get when you mix tennis, pinball, and a side-scrolling platformer? You get FlingSmash, an upcoming Wii title that’s being developed by Artoon.

The basics: you’ll use Wii MotionPlus to swing and smash a tiny fruit-with-hair-looking creature named “Zip” across an ever-scrolling level filled with enemies, blocks, and more. Zip flies across the screen, bouncing off everything in sight. The goal is to rack up as many points as possible (and pick up medals) as you near the stage’s end.

Announced at last year’s E3 as Span Smasher, the title has gone through a few changes, according to Nintendo. Previously, the title was stated to only support Wii MotionPlus. Now, FlipSmash requires it, due to some changes in level design that Nintendo states demanded

Down Alice in Wonderland's DS, Wii rabbit hole screenshot

No one asked Tim Burton to do a live action version of Alice in Wonderland, but it’s happening regardless, and the previews have been met with blended reactions.

No one asked Disney Interactive to make a game tie-in for Wii and Nintendo DS, but… here it is. Alice in Wonderland The Video Game is schedule to be released on March 2, right before Burton’s picture hits the silver screen.

Mostly looks like what you’d anticipate from a film-to-game tie-in, and likely won’t hold us over until American McGee and Electronic Arts reveal their Alice sequel. But if you simply must get your Lewis Carroll fix, this one’s for you.

Bust out the streamers, Tetris Party Deluxe announced screenshot

Looks like I’m taking a trip to Party City to pick up some confetti and streamers — Tetris Party Deluxe has just been announced for Wii and Nintendo DS.

Hitting retail this June, Deluxe is the follow-up to the WiiWare title, Tetris Celebration, already available for download. What’s so freakin’ Deluxe about it, exactly? Well, it features six new game modes, including something called “Bombliss” and “VS. Sprint” which has players racing to finish 40 lines.

The game supports both local and online multiplayer via Nintendo Wi-Fi. And if you’re playing on the Wii, make some room and bust out the Wii Balance Board, the Wii Wheel, and your Wii Speak — the game supports them all.

Considering how tough it is to find a copy of Tetris DS (at least it has been for me), I’m happy to see more Tetris action coming to retail. Or I could just play Tetris Friends. Crap, why did I even think about it? There goes my productivity…

Peripherally Speaking: Tatsunoko vs. Capcom FightStick screenshot

Over the years, the prestige surrounding “arcade stick” controllers has ballooned into something epic. Back in the days of the NES Advantage, stick controllers were made to help ease old-school gaming fans, who weren’t as comfortable with the NES “joypad,” into the new world of gaming. Like the Wii’s Classic Controller, these sticks were relatively cheap and simple to come by, and were made specifically for people who weren’t too keen on Nintendo’s latest innovation in game control.

It was only after Street Fighter II
